什么是网络

网络一词有多种意义，可解作： 1、电路或电路的一部分。汉语中，“网络”一词最早用于电学。《现代汉语扁》(1993年版)做出这样的解释：“在电的系统中，由若干元件组成的用来使电信号按一定要求传输的电路或这种电路的部分，叫网络。” 2、流量网络（Flow Network）也可以简称为网络(Network)。一般用来对 管道系统、交通系统、通讯系统来建模。有时特指计算机网络 (Computer Network)，或特指其中的互联网 (Internet)由有关联的个体组成的系统，如：人际网络、交通网络、政治网络。 3、由节点和连线构成的图。表示研究诸对象及其相互联系。有时用的带箭头的连线表示从一个节点到另一个节点存在某种顺序关系。在节点或连线旁标出的数值，称为点权或线权，有时不标任何数。用数学语言说，网络是一种图，一般认为它专指加权图。网络除了数学定义外，还有具体的物理含义，即网络是从某种相同类型的实际问题中抽象出来的模型，习惯上就称其为什么类型网络，如开关网络、运输网络、通信网络、计划网络等。总之，网络是从同类问题中抽象出来的用数学中的图论来表达并研究的一种模型。 4、比喻性的泛化的意义，如“人际关系网络”、“信息交流网络”等，这种意义下，常说成“网”。 5、现在一般指“三网”：电信网络、有线电视网络、计算机网络。狭义的含义即因特网。 计算机网络是用通信线路和通信设备将分布在不同地点的多台自治计算机系统互相连接起来，按照共同的网络协议，共享硬件、软件和数据资源的系统。

所以social network site：社交网站，以个人为中心，比如说人人网，facebook。

social networking site：社会通信交流网站，以群体为主，比如说网上社区。

计算机网络协议同我们的语言一样，多种多样。而ARPA公司与1977年到1979年推出了一种名为ARPANET的网络协议受到了广泛的热捧，其中最主要的原因就是它推出了人尽皆知的TCP/IP标准网络协议。目前TCP/IP协议已经成为Internet中的“通用语言”，下图为不同计算机群之间利用TCP/IP进行通信的示意图。

为了使不同计算机厂家生产的计算机能够相互通信，以便在更大的范围内建立计算机网络，国际标准化组织（ISO）在1978年提出了“开放系统互联参考模型”，即著名的OSI/RM模型（Open System Interconnection/Reference Model）。它将计算机网络体系结构的通信协议划分为七层，自下而上依次为：物理层（Physics Layer）、数据链路层（Data Link Layer）、网络层（Network Layer）、传输层（Transport Layer）、会话层（Session Layer）、表示层（Presentation Layer）、应用层（Application Layer）。其中第四层完成数据传送服务，上面三层面向用户。
